[Wenger talking about Chelsea] Take what Arsenal and Chelsea have won in the past eight years. I go with reality, with the football we play and the challenge we have ahead. I don’t see especially that Chelsea play more English players than we do. Who have they produced, homegrown? Just one, John Terry.
[Wenger talking about Mourinho’s Defensive Strategy] I know we live in a world where we have only winners and losers, but once a sport encourages teams who refuse to take the initiative, the sport is in danger.
[Mourinho accusing Wenger of being a voyeur] Wenger has a real problem with us and I think he is what you call in England a voyeur. He is someone who likes to watch other people. There are some guys who, when they are at home, have this big telescope to look into the homes of other people and see what is happening. Wenger must be one of them – it is a sickness. He speaks, speaks, speaks about Chelsea.
[Wenger on Mourinho after the then Chelsea boss accused him of being a voyeur] He’s out of order, disconnected with reality and disrespectful. When you give success to stupid people, it makes them more stupid sometimes and not more intelligent.
[Mourinho makes it clear he is quite happy to see the Frenchman in court] At Stamford Bridge, we have a file of quotes from Mr Wenger about Chelsea football club in the last 12 months – it is not a file of five pages. It is a file of 120 pages.
[Wenger accuses Mourinho of being a chequebook manager ] If you would like to compare every manager you give each one the same amount of resources and say ‘you have that for five years’. After five years you see who has done the most.
[Jose Mourinho hits out at Arsenal transfer policy] Unlike Arsenal, we sought success and tried to build it through a concept of the game using English players.
[Mourinho on Arsenal after being sacked by Chelsea] The English like statistics a lot. Do they know that Arsene Wenger has only 50 per cent of wins in the English league?
[Wenger talking about Mourinho’s tactic against Galatasaray] When you see how it looks on television it is the best demonstration to think: ‘Never do that again’. It looks, frankly, horrible. It’s a pity to see that from a big club.
[Mourinho responds to Wenger’s criticism] Instead of speaking about Real Madrid, Mr Wenger should speak about Arsenal and explain how he lost 2-0 against a team in the Champions League for the first time. The history about the young kids is getting old now. Sagna, Clichy, Walcott, Fabregas, Song, Nasri, Van Persie, Arshavin are not kids. They are all top players.
[Mourinho accuses Wenger’s players of having a “tradition of crying”] You know, they like to cry. That’s tradition. But I prefer to say, and I was telling it to the fourth official, that English people – Frank Lampard, for example – would never provoke a situation like that.
[Wenger talking about Mourinho selling Juan Mata to Manchester United] Chelsea have already played twice against Man United, they could have sold him last week. I think if you want to respect the fairness for everybody, this should not happen.
[Mourinho responds to Wenger’s criticism] Wenger complaining is normal because he always does. Normally he should be happy that Chelsea sold a player like Juan Mata, but this is a little bit his nature. I think what is not fair is that his team always has the best days to play.
[Wenger asked why some of Arsenal’s fellow title hopefuls were so keen to downplay their ambitions] It is fear to fail.
[Mourinho responds to Wenger] Am I afraid of failure? He is a specialist in failure. I’m not. So if one supposes he’s right and I’m afraid of failure, it’s because I don’t fail many times. So maybe he’s right. I’m not used to failing. But the reality is he’s a specialist because, eight years without a piece of silverware, that’s failure. If I do that in Chelsea, eight years, I leave and don’t come back.
[After Wenger shoved Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge] In hindsight I think I should not have reacted at all. It’s not a way to behave on a football field. Did Mourinho provoke me? That is how I felt. I did not enter Chelsea’s technical area.
[Mourinho after being shoved by Wenger] I’m not surprised, I’m not surprised. (Me) charged? Charged? If it was me it would have been a stadium ban.
[Wenger questioning Mourinho’s defensive tactics in the Champions League] It is easy to defend.
[Mourinho referring to Arsenal’s Champions League last 16 exit] It’s not easy. If it was easy, you wouldn’t lose 3-1 at home to Monaco.
[Wenger told Jose Mourinho to show him more respect] I think I just told you that the biggest thing for a manager is to respect other managers and some people have to improve on that. The rivalry is real. But it has to be respectful. I believe that the managers sometimes in the heat of the game, (the) passion gets out of control and when I’m guilty, I regret always.
[Wenger about Chelsea have been accused of playing boring football] That’s what people say when you don’t win but let’s not forget you can be boring and lose as well, I believe big clubs have a responsibility to win but to win with style.
[Mourinho talking about Arsenal transfers] If you add up the amounts the clubs have spent in the last three or four years I think maybe you will find a surprise. Get a calculator. That is one of the easiest things to do. It leaves no space for speculation. If you want to be honest, objective and pragmatic it is the easiest job for a manager or a journalist to do. They have bought a fantastic goalkeeper and that is a position which is very important in a team. If you put Ozil plus Sanchez, plus Chambers, plus Debuchy you will maybe find a surprise.
[Wenger responds to Mourinho spending jibes] One day you will look at the players we have developed here compared to the spending and other clubs and you will be surprised. I get different reproaches – that I don’t spend enough then I spend too much. The trend in our society is to always want new things but longevity, history and cohesion has to be respected too. I let other people talk.
